Looking for hot weather riding gear?

I live in the desert where it's extremely hot (high of 108 today) and am looking for suggestions of the coolest (in temperature, not 'looking') riding gear you have found for the summer. I'm planning on riding mainly for commuting with occasional medium distance touring (100 miles each way or so), so no full out racing suits please, and I prefer non-leather.

Any suggestions of particular brands or specific models of helmets, jackets, gloves, pants, or even boots would be appreciated. And I'm particularly having trouble finding non-black summer gloves online, so please point me in the right direction if you know any.

Links to retailers and/or specific brand sites would be appreciated if you know them.

Thanks a lot.

  1. ya ever seen them leathers that male strippers where, shows there butt and back of legs, but covers the front. ROFL nah but really check out motocross gear, its breathable, it covers what needs to be covered and very durable. and hey if your hard core you can paint it an put spikes all over

  2. I would recommend a good textile jacket. Tourmaster,Fieldsheer and Joe Rocket sell several types that will work for you.  Helmet Harbor (in Arizona) has several You-tube videos that you can view to get an idea of Jackets for summer and high temp.

When considering a high temp textile you really need to check out where the armor is located and how it fits.  So be sure to try the jackets on first then look around for the best deal.  So be sure to check out your local apparel shop.

  3. Birthday suit.

  4. T-Shirt, Levis, and no helmet.

  5. Speedos are very good for venting and letting air in, and also Camelbaks which are backpacks that carry a bag of water that you can suck through a straw while riding very convenient, and timberlands are airy and heavy duty at the same time
