Looking for ideas for snacks for a kindergarten class celebrating May Day (Celebration of Spring)?

Just looking for something special for my sons kindergarten class. They are celebrating May Day as the celebration of spring. We have to bring in a snack for everyone. (approx. 30 snacks)

I am looking for something special, but yet not too hard to transport. I can make it myself (am a really good chef/baker) or I can buy it, if there is something out there for something like this. I could always do the old stand by of cookies or cupcakes, but wanted to bring something special for the kids.

*** OH... it can NOT have nuts of ANY KIND, a boy in his class is allergic. ***

Any parents have ideas? or what have you done in the past for special kindergarten snacks?

  1. Pudding Dirt Cups  http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1840,157...

You can put in gummy worms or anything else, easy and fast.

these 2 ideas are really cute i work at an elementary school mainly with kinders and 1st graders and i did the flower ones and the kids in kinder got a kick outa them. to transport them but a cupcake caddy ive seen them at target for like 15bux i just bought one from ross today for like 7bux the link for the caddy is 20bux but its Wilton brand so that's usually more expensive

  3. I concur with the person who suggeted Dirt Cups--I'm a teenager and I still love those!

If you want to do something healthy, why not a fruit kebob? Strawberries, chopped pineapple, watermelon chunks, and other kinds of fruit on a bamboo skewer. Very quick, easy, tasty, and healthy.

You could also buy small Jello molds with shapes such as flowers, and do Jello pieces in a variety of flavors. If you can't find any suitable molds, make Jigglers with cookies cutters.

  4. you can make a maypole cake.  use a chop stick with thin ribbons  for the ribbon part.  You will need eigth ribbons.  we did this for our mayday celebration.  I made a round cake, decorated the sides with flowers and vines and put my mini maypole on top. It was beautiful.   Anything with flowers is good.   You could also do those jello pudding cup things where you use chocolate pudding as mud, crushed oreos for dirt and make a little garden on top.  Sugar cookies cut into flower shapes or butterflies would be good too.  Just think spring.

  5. How about a veggie tray with ham/cheese for starters since vegetables are related to gardens and gardens are where things are produce and usually the kick-off period is in Spring.  A nut tray to include all natural nuts: peanuts, walnuts; pecans, etc.  and some delightful story told to the kids about a silly squirrel or something to that fact in relation to the nuts.

To give away, I'd gather small brown goodie bags and design their names onto each one to include a package of seeds(flower or vegetables) a small plastic toy wind chime, and a small figurine of the silly squirrel.

  6. What about white chocolate covered pretzels with spring sprinkles? I like the ideas of fruit kabobs too!

  7. Okay. Here is an idea that my grandmother did with my kindergarden class back when I was in kindergarden. I am now in 8th grade and I still remember it. It is a great idea, and I am going to explain it.:

    What you'll need:

-A new CLEAN beach pail and wash it a few times.

-A new CLEAN beach shovel [wash a few times as well]

    -Choclate Pudding

    -Oreo cookies

    -Candy gummie worms

    What you do:

Put the choclate pudding in the pail and make the oreo cookies into crums and mix them into the pudding, then put the candy worms into the pail with the pudding and oreo crums.

It has to do with spring because its dirt and worms!

    Hope that  helped!

    And Good Luck!!

  8. Fruit salad is a very popular "special snack" in my daughter's first grade class.   One of the themes of her magnet school is "wellness," so all the snacks must be healthy.  On one occasion, we brought in melon, pineapple, blueberries, grapes, and strawberries, and made a delicious fruit salad.  We brought in Dixie cups and plastic spoons to serve it.  The kids loved it!
