  1. We live/own in the neighborhood and truly enjoy it. You're close to Metro (Takoma Station - Red Line) so travel around the area is convenient. Takoma Park (spread over the District and Montgomery County, Maryland) offers a mix of bungalows, Victorians and brick ramblers; it offers a real neighborhood feel.

There is a newly-remodeled Safeway on Georgia Avenue / Piney Branch on the District side, but you'll most likely walk over the border to Takoma Park, Maryland for dining and groceries. Takoma Park offers a weekly organic farmers market on Sundays and it is a short walk to the local Silver Spring - Takoma Park Co-op. Several new restaurants are planned for Old Town Takoma Park including a wood-burning pizza place and the new restaurant from the folks behind Colorado Kitchen ... all within a few blocks of the District-Maryland border. Others services such as CVS, banking and dry cleaners are located at or a few blocks from the Metro as well.

On the 'down' side, we'd certainly like to have more dining options, as well as a neighborhood hardware store.

  2. 3rd and Aspen is in the Takoma neighborhood of Northwest... we don't really consider that to be "upper Northwest" (which refers almost exclusively to the wealthy areas further to the west, off of Connecticut and Massachusetts Avenues). While it's not like upper northwest, the Takoma area is fine. It's mostly single family residential and has a more suburban feel. The main complaints about the area would be that there isn't much retail around.
