  1. If it's some kind of an emergency you always contact the American Red Cross, when it pertains to the military.

If you know where he was stationed before he went to Iraq, that would be where he returned to.

  2. The DOD will not give you any information.

Since, you are not his father, mother, brother, sister, child, or grandparent, getting a message to him may be difficult, unless a close direct relative is about to die or has died, or needs his consent for major surgery.

If that is the case, your husband needs to contact the nearest American Red Cross office. He has to provide a valid reason for his request, which the Red Cross will verify. If your request is valid and it is a simple case of your brother-in-law being in transit between duty stations, the Red Cross will contact the military and he will be given the information.

Contacting a military base, via phone, can take forever and be extremely frustrating, not to mention expensive, unless you have a digital phone.

I can't help wondering why your husband doesn't have his brothers address.

  3. Looking for family does relate to "genealogy" to an extent.. but it also is true that yahoo does prohibit posting information about living people here. Catch 22.  I could not post his location if I knew it.

I can offer tips how to find someone. Since he is military, see what the dept of defense (or whichever military branch he is) has to offer. They could have a program where they will FORWARD any letter/ contact you send to them, but will not give you any location directly. This protects those who are not wanting contact with family (not to say this is true for brother, but it could be).
