  1. I wouldn't fish in Lake Chapala either.

    Take a look at Pátzcuaro.

    Check out the links below.

  2. Ajijic, Jalisco I think is the best option. It's on the shores of the chapala lake, the bigest lake in Mexico. BEAUTIFUL in every aspect. Many interesting and entretaining places in Ajijic and nearby such as Chapala City. Exellent Fresh water fishing in the lake. The lake is very big with many beautiful towns by its shores, but if you want to retire the best is Ajijic, Bisides it's only one our and a half away from Guadalajara, the beautiful capital of Jalisco and Mexico's second city.

  3. I would have to respectfully disagree with Ignacio.Lake Chapala has some of the poorest freshwater fishing in all of Mexico due to pollution and years of over fishing.

    See link.

There are several lakes and reserviors in Mexico with good fishing that are near towns sutible for retirement.I would look into the area around Puerto Vallarta. One of Puerto Vallarta's prime spots for freshwater fishermen is the Cajon de Penadam.

  4. Carmargo

they have this big spring there

and it is a meduim sized place with really sweet and generuos ppl

  5. Hahahaha, lake Chapala? It's like that episode of the Simpsons where Homer fishes a three eyed fish. The lake is famous in Mexico because of the poor condition it's in and there isn't enough money to clean it up sadly.

Look, the best way for someone to know a good place to retire is to visit the country and see for yourself. Mexico is a very big country with a lot of different ecosystems, food and culture that varies hugely with each region. Also add in with the weather that different diseases affect different regions.

The jungle like regions of the country have mosquitos that carry a deadly disease called dengue (similar to malaria to give you an idea). The locals are genetically more resistant but even so a lot of people get the disease each year.

Other regions have scorpions and snakes and this bug called the chinche which carries a parasite that causes Chagas. If you know which bugs and critters cause disease in the area, you should copy the good habits of the locals to prevent getting them in your house and get sick.

I also believe each person likes a specific region of Mexico more than another. I personally love Hidalgo and Veracruz but others will like the more jungle regions more in the south and others love the north. You really should take trips to the villages by car or in due effect by bus and go everywhere. The person who has the best judgement will be that person at the end.
