Question:

Looking for new bicycle?

I have a mountain bike which would be wonderful if I lived near mountains still, unfortunately I moved into a big city and was looking for something built for streets smaller paved trails or sidewalks.

I have no experience with these kinds of bikes, I do know I don't want to sit like I'm racing, I'd prefer to sit normal (eg: mostly upright) but a light frame and geared for long distances would be perfect.

I looked online and saw some decent ones but I wanted to ask you folks.. any recommendations?

I can spend more money if I have to but is there a such thing as a bike in this category for around 300-400$? (prefer closer to 300$ because my girlfriend and I are looking for one [and I'd like to buy hers for her too])

  1. Check out the hybrid or fitness series of bikes.  They have bigger wheels than your mountain bike and are made for how you intend to ride.

A good starting point is to check out the Trek 7000 or FX series...the link will get you there and give you a place to start....one thing to watch is the gearing.  Most will have a 48/38/28 up front, but watch the back.  I guy I know bought a Giant Cypress DX (another mistake;  you sure dont need disc brakes btw)  with a 14-34 cluster in the back and tells me he ran out of gears when he wasnt pulling the kid stroller.(this means the 14 in back was too big)   The Trek 7200 he didnt buy had a 11-30 cluster which would give you more top end.
