I am looking for some organizations that operate in the US that provide free or low-cost surgical procedures to people in need.

My 55-ish year old uncle lives in Virginia and had a botched knee surgery after a car accident about 4 months ago. He now needs more surgeries to fix the problem but has no health insurance and cannot afford to pay for the procedures. He is unable to work and cannot provide for his family (4 children and his wife). He is ineligible for medicaid but definitely needs the help.

If anyone knows of any organizations working in the US to help people like this please let me know ASAP!

  1. Have you done a search somewhere like http://www.altavista.com/web/adv for free clinics or indigent medical care and Virginia?    He could also check with the local United Way in his area and ask for info on this and look for a university hospital.   He may still have a claim for this on the original accident insurance and / or in a suit against the person at fault if it was not his fault.   If the surgery was botched through medical malpractice he has a claim there too.   A lawyer can advise him.   He may want to consider a legal services plan like http://www.prepaidlegal.com/hub/caringha... we have found that this is very affordable ($17 a month in most states)   Often a letter from a lawyer - at no extra cost to him- can persuade a dr that he wants to offer settlement without suit as well as accomplish a lot of other things.

  2. University of Virginia indigent orthopedic surgery.Veterans Hospital if he is a Veteran. Medicaid should qualify him, especially with  four children. Church groups and charitable organizations in your area, are there to help him.

SSI disability, there have been some other very good references made here to help him.Admirable of you to try and assist him.
