Looking for performance tips for my 2007 Harley Davidson Sportster xl883

I have an '07 Sportster 883 that i'm looking for ideas and suggestions on how to upgrade performance wise. I dont know a whole lot about all the ECU and computer stuff and this is the first year of fuel injection on these models. I took the baffles out of my stock pipes and it sounds a lot better but thats about it. What else can I / should do to make it a fire breathing little hot rod. And what do all the parts cost or where online can I go to check stuff out. It doesnt have to be "harley" brand parts. I'd like to go with an upgraded air cleaner but not really sure whether to go KN or Screamin Eagle or if there is something better. I've seen the cone filters before but dont know much about them or also the things that look like little super chargers on the side of the bike. Thanks for all your help in advance

  1. Joe B is correct... and to add to that - its a total chick bike.  And it comes stock from the factory with a rainbow sticker.

  2. "can't make it go fast" is just a buncha uninformed BS, as evidenced by the fact that the bike that holds the land speed record in this class started life as an 883. now, injection will make it more expensive than a carburated bike, 'tis true. you wanna start with exhaust, hi-flow air cleaner, and a dynojet power commander. that alone is gonna really wake up your 883. after that it just depends on how bad the speed bug has hit you and how deep your pockets are. you can bore it, stroke it, turbo it, supercharge it, nitrous it, etc. have fun! (someone here already mentioned sportster.org, and that's the group that built the bike that put sportster on top in the land speed game. go there.)

  3. I used to own a 03 Suzuki DRZ400S dual sport, single cyl bike

and looking at the dyno HP and Torque charts for this bike I was AMAZED to find out the chart for the HD883 was almost identicial!

That surprized me knowing the HD883 was over twice the engine size plus a twin cyl.

The HD 883 is slow cause of the added weight it has to pull around

  4. To add to Skull biker, Most people don't know that you can bore out 883 cylinders to 1200 specs. The problem is finding a shop that will do the work. Then you only have to buy piston kits and gaskets.

  5. Keeping the hardware stock you're limited.

    Perfomance pipes

    K+N air cleaner

    Crane Hi-4 single fire ignition

    Hot ,single fire coil

    Re-map of the processor

That's really about it short of rebuilding the engine and if you were going to do that, might as well put a 1200 top end on it.

  6. Put your baffles back in, all that does is p**s PEOPLE OFF.

Your 883 will never be a firebreathing hot rod, they are slow revving, torquey, fun to ride bikes.

Performance is not in the cards.

  7. http://www.sportster.org

    http://www.jpcycles.com/

to think of a few there are also a few yahoo groups or fourms you can check out....by typing sportster forum best to stick with harley brand but there are others just has good kn is great and as for the charger its mosty for looks

  8. go with the big bore 1200 kit,you wont be sorry you did
