I want to set up a solar power system with a power inverter (PI)

all of the PIs that i have found do not turn on or off automatic when power is demanded or not demanded. The problem with my current configuration is the PI would drain the batteries over time. Even when power is not needed the PI still takes power from the batteries.

  1. you need to use relays and a sensor that measures current.  You will be able to utilize multiple poles and even create a latching relay that would stay on when power is demanded and bypassed manually if desired.

  2. the Xantrex inverters both modified and sine wave models do go to sleep when all loads are turned off. I have Samlex inverters that do the same. Usually in the sleep mode power draw is less than 200 milli amps. When you apply a load whether its a lamp or tv the inverter will power up. Some inverters you can set the sensitivity to the load.
