Hm. I never had trouble with Sardi's but then, I haven't been there since I lived there 20 years ago.

I was going to suggest heading out early for an earlier dinner and going the distance for one of the BEST Italian restaurants in the city.

If you can't make it there on this trip - try it sometime - you will be thrilled with the service, the food... the prices are average for the city, maybe even a little less than average.

It's at West 56th between 8th and B'way.

You could be dining there and easily see people like Robert DeNiro or Jerry Seinfeld at the next table. Billy Crystal and many others also go there ... James Woods ... Christopher Walken ... the list is endless.

You could also order some of their bottled sauces from the site ... or if you're lucky, get them at your favorite supermarket.

I always like to go to Gallagher's Steakhouse on 52st.  One of my absolute favs, they've been in business for over 80 years.

Whatever you do, stay away from Sardi's.  Worst food and attitude ever!
