Looking for quality bike for my 8-yr-old, who is as tall as most 10-yr-olds.?

My daughter has outgrown her flowered bike and is hoping for a 10-speed, but I'm not sure. She is still a beginner bike rider, not an expert yet. That's what we get for living in the country! Please help me with name brands, good quality, and not over $250. Thanks!

bike recommendations from the experts suggest that for a beginning bike rider there should not be a ten speed.  Check out http://www.losethetrainingwheels.org  and go to bike selection.  They recommend many brands and discuss the differences. For my tall 7 y.o. what was recommended was Giant, Raleigh, Trek, Haro, and Schwinn.  For quality you need to go to a shop.  Even going to a shop these bikes run from 135.00 to 170.00.  The arm cranks should be shorter and low to the ground.  You want a hand break on the rear tire not on the front and not on both. Kids new to riding with a handbreak on the front tire are more likely to use the handbreak first instead of in conjunction with the coasterbrake causeing them to do a header (flip over the handlebars).  Avoid the banana seat because youi don't stay in the proper position.  For more check out the site above

visit the local Walmart and have her sit on the bikes to determine size.  the cost is less then $250.
