Looking for recommendations for a good, cheap, strong coffee?

I can't afford the good stuff anymore. I like a dark roast.

Well, I've been there.

I've tried the following things:

Bought two cans cheap coffee at the dollar store. Bought one can of French roast.  I mixed the three cans together in an airtight container and stored it in the freezer. Worked pretty good.

I've also just bought cheaper coffee and got used to drinking it.  You can mix it stronger.  Use 2 scoops regularly, try 2 1/2.

I don't have a brand to recommend.  But the Dollar Stores do have coffee cheaper.  I don't know what you drink but it's worth checking out.  Most carry one brand plus some generic coffee.  I've seen Maxwell House, Folgers and Chuckful O' Nuts.

Find a Greek or near eastern grocery store (many towns have them  - just look in the yellow pages)- they have dark roast in bulk that is very inexpensive.

I discovered Wal-Mart's brand of "100 % Arrabica Premium Ground"  a year ago.  I buy nothing else.  I've gone from Starbucks to Eight O'Clock and this is the best deal in town.  A 39ounce can (2.7lbs) cost around $7.  The can is red.  I buy 3-4 at a time.  Enjoy.

I like Cafe Bustello, you can't find it in all stores, but its cheap and good. Look in the mexican section.

Go to the Dollar store they have the good brands but in smaller sizes.

The cheap and strong stuff is the lowest priced ground coffee that you find in cans at the supermarket. It tastes awful and has about 10 times as much caffeine as the good stuff.

But good coffee is best when you get the freshly roasted beans delivered every month. Grind them and brew them fresh and drink it fresh. Nothing better. I take a thermos with me, so instead of paying ridiculous prices for coffee shop coffees, I get my own which is even better.

Get the dark roast beans and mix it with kona bean, grind beans to a turkish fine, spread it out in filter and brew it twice.

Use a two or four cup brewer
