I am big on hiking. Would like to take a 3-4 days hike up to Machu Picchu. Plus Lake Titicaca if possible. Please share your reco for tour operators.

  1. the most important  is to know , when ? because June , July and August usually are full .. is hi seasoon there

  2. I did the Salkantay trail to Machu Picchu instead of the Inca trail. Salkantay is longer, harder, and less crowded than the Inca trail. Also, you get the different landscapes of passing through amazing Dead Woman's Pass in the mountains and also going down through jungle-like trails.  I loved it. I used SAS travel and was extremely pleased.

  3. I believe he answered your question about the Inca trail. You have to hire a guide and they only allow so many tourists and guides per day on the trail. As for Lake Titicaca take the train from Cuzco to the lake. Its reasonable in price and takes all day.  Then figure out where you want to go from there.  The bus goes to Copa and that is a great little rustic town from which to get out to the Island of the Sun.  Quite a lot of hiking around the town and the nearby area.  Very interesting country.

  4. I do a lot of trekking in Peru and have contacts in the business, and the people I do my trekking with (independents) recommend for the Inca trail: Aventours, Explorandes and, strangely enough, Amazonas Explorer. I'm enclosing their web pages.
