Question:

Looking for silly/sweet care package ideas...

I'm planning to send a long distance friend a care package when he goes back to school in a few weeks, and would love some ideas on top of what I'm already thinking (excellent t-shirt, mix cds, pirate band-aids, etc). We aren't together, just liking each other a ton (so it can't be overly romantic), but I'd like it to have a sweet edge to it. I'd also like to make him smile. I'm can be crafty and would love making him a few things for more of a personal touch, but am having trouble thinking of crafts that aren't too cheesy. I should also mention that we haven't met yet. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks! :)

  1. go to spencers gifts

  2. Hershey hugs and kisses (but I'd wait until it gets cooler so they don't melt).

I love the previous poster's idea of the calendar and marking off the days of "have you called me today" and hug a friend, etc.  You can buy a calendar or a school planner, and make it go from now to June and write little one liners with stickers in it.  Check out Amazon.com and even some fun stores online would have things like that.  In any search engine, type in fun calendar or weekly planners and see what you can find.

You can put in things depending on the classes he's taking and the kind of weeks that he's having, you can tailor it by your conversations, inside jokes, shows he likes etc.

You can send him magazines he may like, things that would cover actors, bands, tv shows, etc. that he may like.

Candy that he would like to sweeten up his week!

A lemon to remind him on hard week that when life hands you lemons to make lemonade! And some sugar too to make it sweeter!

I would also make sure to send each one with a Hershey kiss and hug just to let him know you send him a hug and kiss with each package.  You can even find the stuffed kiss at  Toys R' Us or the Hershey website.  You can send him the stuffed version of the Hershey Kiss to keep on his desk at school.

You can send a picture of yourself to tell him you're always there for him.

You can make him a Build-A-bear in something that he's interested in, like in jeans and a leather jacket or something like that.

You can send him his favorites snacks, chips, cookies, etc things you know he loves to snack on.  I'm sure he would love that.  Even if there's certain things he likes to drink and can't find on campus.

He can send him quarters for when he needs to do his laundry.

You can send him funny cards, those ones now that make sounds, sing, etc, those are great for sending people and cheering them up or making them smile!

You can send him things that he might bring up that he misses from home.  When he talks to you or e-mails, see what he talks about.  It could be as simple as a shampoo that he forgot from home, or something that he may want for his room.

You can send him laundry detergent, I know it's not fun, but needed!   You can send him a fun poster for his wall for his dorm room, you can send him something to hang on his door.

Food is always a good thing!  LOL  That was the one that that everyone always wanted in the dorms when I was in school.  Nothing that has to be cooked, just things you can snack on, chips, cookies, candy, things like that.

You can send him things like you mentioned, a mixed cd, and things that are privated jokes between the two of you, that's going to mean a lot to him!

After the first package, you can then ask him if there's anything he's missing from home that he didn't bring with him. As a joke you can send him some socks and things like that, tell him you thought he may need some more. etc.

I would also see what he mentions, I'm sure sooner or later, he will bring up things that he wants or needs.  Shoes for the shower are something NO ONE thinks about but are SO needed!  You are sharing common showers and are usually waiting in line and the shower you go into is usually wet and still soapy from the last person that was in, as they're walking out you're walking in, I would send him some flip flops or something for his feet to wear while he's in there.  No one wants foot fungus! LOL

I hope this helps!  Good luck to you and your friend and I hope you get to meet one day!

  3. what guy doesn't love chocolate??? chocolate is sweet! put together all the ingredients needed (including recipe) for your favorite chocolate chip cookie , or chocolate cake..etc. Put it wrapped in ribbon, in a special tin and decorate the tin where you could personalize it. you could use rubber stamps with fast dry black ink or heat dry ink, then color in with specialty markers like marvy type.

Make him a personlised calender, either a whole years worth, or one special months worth. Include funny quotes or jokes or special quips that have meaning to you both. include a picture on it. mark off dates like..time to call (your name here)  or 'don't forget to say hi to (so and so). or..have you hugged your friend today?
