I live close to fort wayne!  But I don't know how to help you.  The only thing I can think of is people search

Call the local paper for that area and ask them if their paper goes back to 1972 if it does ask them were it is archived then go there (it will probably be on microfilm) and look up the birth announcements for that week and you will probably find it that way.
