Looking for someone who has actually made fake rocks

I want to make some large fake rock to cover a septic but I don’t know where to start. I would like for someone who has actually made some and would not mind sending me step by step direction and some pictures.

  1. go to google and type in, how to make fake rocks, and you have answered your own question.

  2. Find the guy who make artificial sugar and imitation crab.

  3. I don't have pics and rarely do links but I have a suggestion that isn't brain surgery.

Working in theater for more than 40 years, making faux rocks, boulders, bricks, etc. is something I've done, even a faux sand dune the full width of a stage.

I guess I want to assume this Septic is partly above ground? I cannot imagine why, but in any case.

Get yourself some PT 2 x 4's, build a rough frame, with some notion in mind of what a large boulder looks like, then cover the frame with wire mesh. Depending on the gauge and fineness of the mesh you can stucco it, cement it, or layup fiberglass on it. Before the application you can push the mesh into a shape that resembles a boulder.

I suspect whatever your choice the faux boulder will be heavy, and if you choose to build it immediately over the septic, you may want to consider how it can be moved if/when the septic needs to be pumped, or replaced.

The job itself isn't difficult at all.

A lighter weight faux boulder could be construction grade foam sheeting glued together, carved, sawed, sanded,  then some layup applied over, even expandable, aerosol foam, then painted.

    Just my two "sense"

  4. I covered an old kitchen sink with a mixture of sand, cement and peat using Polybond to make it stick

It looks like a real tufa trough
