  1. "The Mabinogion" tells about Celtic mythology and discusses several of the magic items owned by the Celtic Gods and Goddesses. "The Eddas" tell of the Norse which includes thier magical items. I am sure there are more including 1001 Arabian Nights, not to mention several nursery rhymes.

  2. what kind of magical items are we discussing here?  Like tablecloths that provide endless food if the magic words are uttered, and seven league boots, or like magic wands and spellbooks?

  3. Well, there's a Scottish folktale called Iain Direach ("Upright John") in which Iain has to go after a succession of strange magical items and creatures. Also in Scottish folklore is the story of the fairy flag of Dunvegan, an actual flag that is still on display at Dunvegan Castle and is said to be very magical indeed.

A lot of the Greek gods had magical items at their command: Hermes had winged sandals, Hades a helmet of invisibility. Also, there's the story of Pandora's Box, in which curiosity really does kill the cat--when inquisitive Pandora opens her box, she lets out all sorts of evils into the world.

There's a lot more, too; those are just the ones I can get off the top of my head.
