I have 2 daughters ages 3 1/2 months and 2 years old... My husband is working 2 jobs to support us, and we are just barely getting by.... I'd like to make my own income somehow, but I still want to be the one to take care of my children... I do know the obvious, like selling avon and mary kay... and such.... but I wouldnt be a good party planner, and I need more people to sell too. I know there are plenty of moms out there that are stay at home moms but also work... I wish someone would point me in the right direction!!!! We are really struggling for money... badly. Even if I could make at least 50 dollars a week that would help... a great deal.

  1. I do Mary Kay and my customers are people I have meet since I started the business not people I knew before selling like any business you need to promote it and advertise doctors layers anyone who starts a business advertises and build on referrals not from family and friends the important thing is does the opportunity fit your life and provide what you need so I would say find the thing that interest you and get the facts then decide.  I started Mary Kay because I loved and used the product so for me to get mine at a discount made sense from here it turned into a business I was then able to quit my full time job and stay home with my children.

  2. Jess, It's true that you can really make money by having your own Mary Kay business. I started mine over 3 years ago when I had my son. I thought it would just be something fun for me to do and to make a little money at, but it's turned out to be much more. I love it!

I thought the same thing about myself (that I wouldn't be good at planning parties), but the company provides you with everything you need to be successful and they tell you how to build a great business step by step.

I am more than happy to share more info with you if you are interested. You can e-mail me at: kymberleezimmer@marykay.com  or through my website at: www.marykay.com/kymberleezimmer

  3. As a person who trains women in Mary Kay, you get all the training and help you need with learning how to find customers.  I knew only a handful of people when I began, this is a skilled business to be successful at, you may not know how to work it.. but are you teachable? that is the question. I stay home with my 3 kids and make good money. I have been doing this for 8 years. Good luck. Email me if you want more info on what the training entails...

  4. I was recently laid off and I have found a great way to make money at home--and its really easy.  Just a few hours a day can work for you.  See below...

  5. Hello! I am also wanting to work from home, but my husband is self employed. His check in not dependable in this economy.  To be honest I have tried to sell Mary Kay but the product broke me out. You really have to wear it and believe in it before you can sell it. So, what I do for extra money is called Princess House. Princess House is a home interior company. You set your own hours and make as much as you want. The start up cost is amazingly cheap. The product is backed by a guarantee. email me if you would like more information.

  6. First of all, don't fall for any of those online deals. They are ALL scams- every one of them!!! If you really want to work from home, I would suggest doing what I did at one point. I sat down and wrote a list of all my talents, skills, etc... Then, I got a few books regarding women working from home, starting my own business, etc... There is also a really great website called Bizymoms.com which gives you a ton of ideas for making money with the skills you have! For example, I was a teacher before I started staying home and so I found all sorts of ideas like private tutoring, educational consultant, offering educational summer camps for kids, etc... The book I found most helpful was called 101 Business Ideas For Stay At Home Moms. There are tons of others though on Amazon.com Find one that gives you specific info like start up costs for your business, education required (or skills), time involved, etc... As far as immediate money, I would seriously consider trying to sell some things like on Ebay or Craigslist, or offer to babysit someone's child, etc... That way, you can still have a bit of money coming in while getting your business idea up and running! Good luck!

  7. i think that it is hard but can be done. I have 3 boys 9/2 and 3 months and i stay at home with them, i think that with the gas right now it is hard and i have to find a way to make a lil extra money so that i can go to the doc.... ect. Let me know what you get out of this i think that it is a good thing to be agle to stay at home  with your children

  8. Avon is a wonderful opportunity to make money. The leadership program allows you to make a commission off the sales of your downline twice a month. You can sell to friends, family, neighbors and get referrals from them. Share this amazing opportunity with everyone and you will find others who will want to join. It will take some time to get started but it will be worth it. Staying home with my daughter is the reason I joined Avon two years ago and never regretted my decision. I am looking for motivated people to join my team and I would love to help you get started. Please email me from my profile page with any questions.

  9. Try BABYSITTING for your family, friends, neighbors.  I've met some moms at the library who said that's what they do and state clearly that you have only one position open if you don't think you can take on more than one more child.

I've also seen some people shop for GROCERIES for others.  THey earn a certain percentage and they probably discussed something with the manager of the store.  Bringing in business and being a repeat customer goes a long way.

  10. Freelance writing. If you are good at writing at all (and your post while not perfect is more readable and articulate than most on YA) you can be a freelance writer. You can get gigs on Guru.com and eLance.com that will take a few hours of your time and definitely make you the $50-100 a week you seek. You can get that without paying for an enhanced profile such that you can bid on only a few gigs at a time.

If you are interested you can check out the Yahoo group thewritingmother and get lots of tips and encouragement.

It is the best thing I have found to do and after a few years I have a half time gig writing for a weekly paper (although the paper I think is going under as they have yet to pay me for last month but it was great while it lasted) and also get the occasional thing with my free profile on Guru.com. This week I will make $160 for about 2 days work writing a grant application for an artist -- that is net. I sent an invoice for $200 and Guru`s fees took out some but it is still a good deal.

I do not get that every week but I am trying to target my bids better so I get more contracts.

If you are good at something besides writing you can look around on Guru and eLance for other things you can do as a freelancer.

ETA: Thumbs down? Huh. That was random. I actually thought I made sense with a solution that has really worked for me that is not a scam. If you do not know how to write well yet you can get The Wealthy  Writer and other books on business writing to brush up. It is really not hard at all for me. But I do work hard.

  11. If you don't need too much extra per week you could always post in churches and grocery stores that you will do shopping (mainly grocery shopping I would imagine) for the elderly/dissabled. Charge a flat rate of say $20 per client. Even if you have to make a few extra trips to the store every week it should still be worth the extra $20 per trip. Its not too much extra work/time in a week and you could bring your kids with you even. Or, depending on how you feel about it you could allways charge an hourly rate to be somewhat of a companion for elderly people. Take them shopping, to the park, anywhere they gotta go kinda thing. Its sad to say but many of them don't have family with alot of time so would be willing to pay people to take them out to do errands and such. Plus the fact you have two kids would probably brighten their days : ) I guess both of these would require you to have a vehicle...which may not be the case, but you could allways drive your hubby to work on days you need a car and then go pick him up after he's done work...? not sure if this helped but good luck!
