My traditional menu of whimpies, hot dogs and macaroni & cheese has become boring. I need a few new suggestions for a mid-afternoon gathering of adults and children to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Any and all help is greatly appreciated :0)

  1. add marshmallows to the hotdogs, serve spring rolls (there are frozen ones you can get from supermarkets), sliced baguettes with melted cheese on top, chips and nuts, pizza and colorful cupcakes, i'm sure the kids will love the cupcakes.

  2. try hamburgers to eat, fruit punch to drink. and of course cake for desert.

  3. Don't know about the main meal but cupcakes would be good for pud as you could make some bright and colorful ones for the kids and for the adults you could add some more sophisticated flavors to the icing like lemon or even something alcoholic!

  4. That depends, what birthday theme are you going for?

    Here's a good website

  5. cold dogs

  6. Strawberry-Lemon Fruit Dip

Whisk Together a 1/2 cup strawberry cream cheese and 1/2 cup marshmallow creme(fluff) until smooth, then stir in 1 (6 ounce) container lemon yogurt. Serve with fruit (strawberries, grapes, pineapple)

  8. fried chicken, dressing or mashed potatoes and gravy works.  also, a lot of chicken places do catering - offering roast beef with rolls for beef sandwiches.  yum.  good luck.

  9. um. hamburgers or steaks or chicken on the grill. you could get like those vegetable things that come with dip..just an idea. and you can never go wrong with chocolate cake

  10. At my 13th birthday party, we did this!!!

    file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/...

Isn't it awesome??? I know it doesn't look real up close, but It at a distance, it's so real, and did I mention, Tasty, Fun, AND unforgetable!!  Even the adults will love it.

    You need:

1 LARGE can of Chocolate frosting

1 LARGE can of Buttercream frosting

1 LARGE can of White frosting

1 Pack of Double Stuffed Oreos

2 Packs of cake mix (doesn't matter what flavor, i used white.)

    Solid Fruit Rollups

    Rice Crispies

Can of Red frosting (the chese wiz can thing)

To Start, you bake the cakes in 2, 9" pans.  Fill one pan half way, and the other almost all the way (smaller cake-bottom. Larger cake-top

While the cake is baking, Crush up the oreos (desired amount, I used almost the whole tray)

Mix the oreos with the Chocolate frosting (This will be the hamburger.)

When the cakes are done, take them out and remove them from the pan. (one cake should be large and round at top, and one should be smaller with a small rounding (or no rounding at all!)

    Let the cakes cool

I mixed together buttercream frosting, white frosting, and yellow food coloring to get my color, but we were just playing, do whatever you want to get your consistancy.

When cakes are cool, put the smaller cake on the serving plate. Cover it with your buttercream frosting mixture. (top and sides)

Now put the "BURGER" glob of oreos and frosting on the small, frosted cake.  Spread it out so it hangs over the edges a little, but still looks like a burger.

Now, cut out green and yellow fruit roll-ups to look like cheese and pickles, I only put them on the edge because no one's going to see the middle until it's cut.

You're ready for the top bun! Place the larger bun on top of the rest and frost it with the remaining buttercream mixture.

Now, use the can of red frosting to add katchup to the edges (over the chese and pickles)

Sprinkle Rice Crispies or "Sesame Seeds" on top of the burger and...

WALA!!!! YOU HAVE A BURGER CAKE!!!

You can make french fries by cutting sugar cookies into 1" strips and decorating them with the red can of frosting.

    HAVE A HAPPY BIRTHDAY BASH!!!

If nobody asks how you made this for the whole party... May I be crazy.  BUT IM NOT!!!

At my party all my friends got out they're camera's and phones and took pictures!!!!!

  11. how about a taco and nacho bar? also perhaps you can make it a make your own pizza party. get the ingredients and let the kids all make some pizzas for everyone. the kids will love making their own. get lots of funky toppings.

  12. Pizza. Kids love it. Adults love it. And chips. Maybe two or three different kinds i.e. doritos, regular lays, and BBQ. And if you want something more, make a tray of veggies and dip. May not go over too well with the kids but the adults will like it.

  13. Well children tend to hate fussy food. Keep the mac and cheese and hotdogs. When i was little, my mam made burgers or hotdogs for all the kids at parties, and she also had a table of food like mini-sausages, popcorn and fun size chocolate bars, and sweets and stuff that the kids could just eat whenever. No fuss.

for the adults, it's easier to made a few big casseroles or something like that. I love potato bake with cheese and bacon. Google the recipe, there's a load of variations you could try. Also if you want you could do a barbeque and salad.

    Good luck!

  14. In my family, the Birthday person get to choose their own menu (within reason of course).

You daughter is 11, she surely has a favorite dish and favorite cake she would like to enjoy on her day.

in my family we had  everything from chicken and noodles to waffles for the birthday dinner.. nobody ever cared what the menu was, although we knew what it would be because every year we choose the same thing usually.  Desserts ranged from homemade ice cream to cream puffs or chocolate layer cake.

Birthdays are about celebrating and being with family.. the menu is secondary.

Have fun and enjoy what ever you and your daughter choose.

  15. I find that broiled chicken wing "drumettes" (you might see them in the supermarket as "party wings") are always a big hit with both adults and children at any party or get-together. They're also relatively inexpensive and very easy to make: just sprinkle on a little teriyaki sauce, garlic powder, and paprika, and broil on "high" about 6 inches from the flame until crispy dark brown (almost black) on one side; then flip over and broil the other side. Serve with baked beans. Don't make spicy "buffalo wings"; many people (especially kids) don't like hot sauce.

  16. HOMEMADE PIZZA

2 cans tomatoes, undrained and chopped

    2 green peppers, chopped

    2 onions, chopped

    2 tsp. salt

    2 tsp. sugar

    1 tsp. dried oregano

    1/8 tsp. pepper

Combine and simmer over low heat 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Cook ground meat (1 1/2 pounds) with salt until no longer pink. Drain, spoon tomato mixture over crust. Add meat, olives, etc. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Add Mozzarella and Cheddar cheese. Bake 10 more minutes. Top with Parmesan.

    CRUST FOR HOMEMADE PIZZA:

    1 c. boiling water

    2 tbsp. shortening

    1/4 tsp. salt

    1 pkg. yeast (fast acting)

    3 to 6 c. flour

Mix all ingredients, divide in two and place in pizza pan. Cook for 10 minutes and remove and place sauce and cheese on top
