  1. Payard on Lexington Avenue and East 73rd Street - Spectacular!

[someone is bound to suggest the Magnolia Bakery - overpriced and overrated - long lines and the cupcakes are much too sweet)

Also, for something different, try some Japanese pastries - they are so beautiful!  There's an excellent store in Rockefeller Center - Kamakura

You also have to try some New York cheesecake - Junior's (there's one in Grand Central and one in Times Square - the original is in Brooklyn).  Everyone has their favorites - I love the strawberry blonde cheesecake at the Brooklyn Diner ( near Carnegie Hall onWest 57th Street and Seventh Avenue).  The Italian cheesecake at D'Aiuto's Pastry on Eighth Avenue and 30th Street (near Macy's and Penn Station) is something you should try, too. (Another popular one is Veniero's in the East Village;  I don't like it).

Also, if you're visiting the Chelsea Market, get a free brownie sample at Fat Witch Brownie's - only brownies, but they are really good.

Also if you really have a sweet tooth, you should know that there are restaurants that only serve sweets - Chikalicious in the East Village serves a "three-course dinner" for about $13.00.

Again, if you have a serious sweet-tooth, have Sunday  brunch at Brasserie 8 1/2 - the pastries (served at the bar down the few steps - I'm not talking about the section up the steps that serves Krispy Kreme donuts) are wonderful - they have a great pastry chef there - and, it's all-you-can eat.  It's a really nice restaurant.

    Have a great trip!
