Question:

Looking for the best steak restaurant in or around London?

I'd like to take some friends out for a decent steak, and as we live on opposite sides of London it makes sense to meet up in the middle somewhere!

I was thinking of tracking down an Argentinian restaurant as I'd heard they do good steaks, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

It can be anywhere in central or outer London, just as long as the steaks are exceptional!

  1. Not a steak restaurant but they do an excellent steak! The Olive Tree in Hammersmith, West London.

  2. There are a few places you could go for expensive steaks. On a (slightly) more modest budget, I've always had great steaks, cooked as I've asked, at the Gaucho Grill. There are several around London. It's a small chain of Argentine restaurants, which focus principally on steaks.

  3. the best restaurant for steak (along with game and offal) is The Guinea Grill, Bruton Place, Mayfair.

    http://www.theguinea.co.uk/

The have won awards from The British Meat Council, Michelin, Egon Ronay, Time Out and Johannsens.

However - if you are on a budget you may wish to consider somewhere else.  I eat at The Guinea regularly for lunch and I seldom get away with much under £120 per head (inc wine).

    Good luck.

  4. Zinc Bar & Grill on Heddon Street (just off Regent Street) does the best steak I've had in London.

It a Conran restaurant, so stylish, and it has a relaxed brasserie style. Good cocktails at the bar as well.

  5. "Santa Maria de Buen Ayre" in east london is the best in london. You can find it on the "square meal" web site. Go there it is amazing, if you do go get the share plate, it is un real.

Also Smith of Smithfield is excellent but £££, book for the top floor but if not in your budget book on the second floor is still very good and not so exspense.

    Hope This help

P.S don't do Clapham its so.... yesturday

  6. I'm with Matt, The gaucho Grill chain are very good. Check their web site for locations.

  7. Chez Gerard, Charlotte Street

  8. ching mow chonw

  9. There is one is Golders Green, London NW11 its Argentinian, I have not been but my son has been many many times. It always seems very good. Hope your enjoy

  10. Hi

Sorry to give a slimy answer but..it depends what you're looking for.

If you're looking for a proper manly meaty feast - I would strongly recommend Bodeans on Poland Street in Soho.

If you're looking for Steak and Chips, French Bistrot style, then the Bleeding Heart Bistrot on Bleeding Heart Lane (just by Hatton Garden) - they have a restaurant and a bistro - the slightly cheaper bistro has to my taste a far nicer atmosphere and does the french steak-frites thing perfectly.

If you're looking for just the best steak money can buy I would head to La Trompette in Chiswick and have the chateaubriand - it's to die for but it's a pretty upmarket place and although I feel it's great value, you will pay prices to match.

Good luck and thank you for letting me daydream about food a while...

Edited cos I realised I assumed you were male - sorry!

  11. Bodeans (in Soho, just off Tottenham court rd) do AMAZING steaks, burgers, ect... You can sit upstairs in the american diner, or downstairs in the plush restaurant.

Or any Groucho's. They have a few around central london, and again great steaks.

    Enjoy

  12. There is a new steak restaurant in Clapham called "Butcher and Grill" you choose your steak before it is cooked and they are meant to be very good.

You could also try the restaurant "Black and Blue" which specialises in steaks, there is one close to Borough Market which is near London Bridge station so pretty central. have a good time!
