Nothing over 5 1/2' and I like the spin reels, not looking to spend over $200, looking to get some major bay & river use out of it and some light deep sea. Planning on getting some good life out of it. I have been parcel to the penn reels however there rods are so long. What would you recommend?

  1. 5 1/2'  is to short. minimum would be six feet. go to a local tackle shop. i wouldnt suggest buying rods or reels with out feeling them.

  2. A rod is what you are looking for not a pole. go to bassproshops.com and get a one piece six and a half footer for $39.99. Their own brand has a one year guarantee. A five and a half footer is too short to cast any distance with at all. Truly it is more a straight down and trolling length. Good luck

  3. get an ugly stick, medium-heavy action
