  1. I have three daughters, 12, 17 and 22, and they all have phones.  We went with Cricket, because it's cheap and don't ever have to worry about minutes or text going over our plan limitations.  However, Cricket can be limited in service (their coverage isn't the best) and features (things like picture messages and internet), so you have to decide how much you're going to offer your son.

My recommendation is to get him something that is sturdy and cheap enough to replace if broken, lost or stolen.  Find out from your son what features he covets in his friend's phones, too, to see what kind of "competitive" style he's expecting.  That's all part of being a young boy, right?  Have to impress your friends.  I remember looking for just the right pair of tennis shoes...

Anyway, if you need to find out what others are saying about specific models that your phone company offers, try Epinions.com.  Just put in the model of phone and you'll see real user opinions.  I use it all the time.  The other site, that even has a "cell phone finder" is C|Net.  Just go to cnet.com and click on the Reviews tab.  The link for the cell phone finder is on the left.

    Hope that helps!
