Looking for the right rod for a reel I bought?

I had purchaced an Okuma Epixor EF-65a reel a while back online. When it arrived, I wasnt prepared for the size of the thing. It's quite large. Its a 21.6 Oz. in weight. The part you place into a rod is way to big for any rod I owned and the local bait shop did not have any that would fit it either...So maybe someone can give me some help finding a rod that will be suitable for this reel.

This is a link to the reel if it will help.

  1. I'd go with an Ugly stick if you're sure you need something that big... there are a varieity of them on the Cabelas website...

    SP1170-2M  7 foot ugly stick

Look thru their site and find which ugly stick you'd like they have lots of different ones - search on "ugly stick spinning"

  2. Have you considered sending it back or selling? do you need an outfit that big? If so check here, if you need help making the correct choice there is a toll free number. They sell this reel so they should be able to match it up for you!

  3. Try Offshore Angler they are the saltwater division of Bass Pro Shops and call them or cabellas and ask the dept heads if they can measure the reel seats of the largest rods in stock and get back to you. That way if they have one that is big enough you can look at it in their online store before you go looking for one to buy on line at a better price

  4. This reel sounds like it was made for the surf, ( although it doesn't look it ), but if it's to big for all of your freshwater gear, it may be meant for a 9 or 10 foot surfcaster.

  5. You need a spinning reel, medium weight, 7 feet, 7 1/2 feet.

That reel needs 15 lb. line. When you shop for a rod make sure the recommendation range is for that weight.

    That should do it.
