  1. Most cross ties are 8 foot long and weigh about 150 lbs. If you get into switch ties, they can be as long as 16 feet and weigh some where around 300 lbs. More or less your about 15 to 20 lbs a foot.


  2. maybe those folks in gardening knows.   I have some in my backyard garden and they are very, very heavy.  I can only drag them across the grass...lifting is out of the question.. oy vey

  4. depends on if there 6" or 9" most weigh about 250lbs to 300lbs each. the longer ones a little more. six in a 1/2 pickup with trailer option broke the rear end after a mile.

I live right next to two major rail lines (Vail AZ, we have a government own line, and a union pacific line), the UP line uses concrete ties, but I assume you mean the good old wooden ties, the 9" ones are pretty heavy, I would say, in the shape you will find them at home depot, probably about 200 pounds.
