Looking for the work childrens guardians do for kids in foster care?

I am trying to find out what the guardian is to do and how much contact she is to have with children

.A guardian looks after the child or children's best interest, and makes the best choice for that child.

there are lots of different circumstances for children in foster care , some have no contact with there real family and others may see one parent and so on. basically they protect the child in different situations, in a court you usually have a caf caf officer to act on behalf of a child, this involves individual interviews with all concerned,Guardians take parenting roles.

I think the 'guardian litem' goes to court and represents the interests of the children.

This varied from state to state. It also has to do with how much time you have to give to the children. We have a great guardian for our foster child. She makes sure the case worker is doing her job, he is doing his job @ school, and I am doing my job with him. When we have to go to court she helps the case worker in giving the judge what he needs, as far as his progress and other items with his family life. You are a great person to even try something like this. We need more people just like you in this world.

I suggest you contact your local social services and ask them - it makes sure the advice you are given is correct!   You can also try looking on the below website - but you do not say what level you want to do your research, as some of this seems VERY deep (for that, read 'boring'!)

Another place to ask is at the Citizens Advice Bureau - they may know who to contact for more information!

However, I would think that a guardian must have contact with the child, and should work on the child's behalf.   They act in the place of the parents if, for some reason, the parents are unable to act.
