  1. splurge on a travel dvd player, its a life saver!! They take up very little room in your bag, and if you put the dvds in a cd wallet you take up even less room.

  2. My first suggestion would be to bring along something musical she likes which might help sooth her and perhaps lull her to sleep during the flight itself. When my daughter was little, she had a lamb that played the lullaby song and I took it on trips such as this for her.

Second, something you could consider would be a spiral notebook and a few crayons. My daughter loved to doodle and pretend she was writing with me, so this sort of thing provided not only something to keep her occupied a little, but I used it as a learning activity also, teaching her colors and faces (happy, sad, mad, etc.).

Enjoy your trip!! Washington is beautiful if you haven't had the pleasure of going before. :)

  3. A small white board with wipeable markers saves loads of paper and broken crayons flying around! A couple of sock puppets you've made with your toddler? Raisins, very small and take aaaages to eat...  a small fleece blanket/piece of cloth = a tent, a castle, a pillow, a cave, a cape etc etc. Nothing noisy, people will glare at you! Oh, how about some 'proper' headphone, the ones that enclose your ears, for any in flight movies/cartoons/music?

  4. what time of the day are you flying? When i flew with my two girls by myself i made sure to get them food for the plane. Most of the time you have to buy it at the airport cause you cant take it past security. I also went to the dollar store and got some toys they had never seen before they where small but they kept them entertained. Also make sure you have a window seat so she can look out the window. Even though they cant see much they still like to look. Have there favorite blanket, toy, ect....

  5. I flew alone with my son when he was almost 2.

I took a portable DVD player and his favorite movies.  I also made sure to take some snacks, his binky (for the takeoff and landing), his sippy cup for drinks, and some small toys.

    Good luck!

  6. get a dvd player with long lasting batteries and their fav' dvd's. It worked for me.

Buy travel size hand sanitizer wipes.

I flew to argentina (16 hours) with my 18 months old daughter and her doctor told me to give her benadryl. 3 ml 1/2 hour before the plain takes off. ask her/his doctor. Try it at home once first to see if doesn't make her/him hipper.

I's just few hous! good luck!
