  1. Well, there currently is satellite imagery that allows you to see things that are about a meter across, or a little less.  If you have lot$ and lot$ and lot$ of money, you could buy images of the whole of Earth.  This would co$t you million$ of dollar$, however.  For example S.P.O.T. imagery costs $3 per square kilometer, so the whole Earth would run you about $450 million.  Building a satellite, putting it into space, and then operating it and processing the images isn't cheap.

The US military (supposedly) has satellites in space that can see postage stamps, but (of course) that's all classified information.  So, if that kind of imagery really exists, they won't let you have it.

The nifty images on Google Earth where you can see individual trees and cars and sometimes people actually comes from aerial photographs taken from airplanes.  Flying airplanes isn't cheap, either.  Some places have images in the public domain that you can download.  These, however, aren't necessarily much better than the highest resolutions available from satellites in space, and also these are usually only made for urban areas.

Where I work, we can get aerial photographs where you can see things 6 inches in size, but it's very expensive.  For our needs, though, we typically use aerial photographs where you can see things that are 1 meter across.

All things considered, the stuff you can use for FREE on Google is almost as good as you can get, anyway.  Yahoo! Maps is more up-to-date for many areas, however.

Besides, when it comes to imagery that shows more and more detail, how much detail do you want?  Do you want anyone and everyone to be able to see what's going on at YOUR house in exquisite full-color detail?  There is such a thing as "too much of a good thing."
