  1. "California Bungalow" does describe an entire style of house that could be located anywhere.  It's impossible to answer about every bungalow, the style your talking about was designed largely as a single-story. (Link 1 below - "What is a bungalow?")

    I actually  live in California and have seen a lot of houses in this style, none of which had an attic that could be finished. (4' at best).  Still, they're located all over the world (Link 2 references them in Australia), and there may be variations I'm not aware of.

  2. You would have to get a permit and do some engineering to accomplish this type of change.


  3. I doubt there would be enough room to live up in the attic. Take a look at the pitch of the roof (basically the height of the peak of the roof compared with the height of the eaves). I doubt you would have as much as 4 feet of overhead clearance at the peak, much less enough room to stand up in there.
