Looking into getting this mare...thoughts?

she looks all around nice and her conformation is quite good (my uncle went to see her, as i'm too sick to go) she's got some pretty impressive bloodlines and as you can see is very well trained. I've been getting into Paints lately as the rest of my family does cutting and camp drafting (which is way to dangerous for me...I choose life) but western pleasure and barrell racing seem right up my ally. what do you guys think of this mare, i have also been offered a free service by the guy that bred my little gelding, Peppy Dell is the stallions name by Peppy Doc Bar out of a Dell Mingo mare, we recently had a foal dropped by him, and it's a little ripper....so this would also be an option for later...what do you think of her?

sorry for the rambling I'm sick so i've lost all social skills

  1. she looks excellent and well worth the cash

  2. i think that you should totally go for it. She looks like an intent mare, thats willing to learn. Good luck and have fun.

Test ride her first.. so you can get a feel for her style and if thats what you really want.

    =)

    To super_goofychick...

    she's not 2 ....!

Age: 06 .. that means she is SIX years old.

and her price is well set because of her bloodlines...if you knew about that, you wouldnt have stated that.

  3. 12K for a "trick horse"?  Nah.

  4. i think you'd be crazy to pay 12,000 dollars for that horse! she's nothing spectacular and her conformation is average at best. she's not got bad conformation but she doesn't have anything that screams "i need to reproduce". her pedigree isnt amazing either. it's average and there are tons of similarly bred horses on the market so a resulting foal wouldnt gain any value from those bloodlines and neither does this mare. if you're looking for a riding horse who cares if it can do tricks! that's not going to make her any better at riding. i'd also be worried that she's only 2 years old and suppost to be broke for beginners. that would require WAY too much training and pushing a two year old too hard too fast. pushing youngsters too early is the number one cause of lameness as adults. she's also not going to excell at western pleasure because her neck ties in too high at the wither and she won't be able to carry herself the way a western pleasure horse needs to go

**under age it says 06... don't know if that means she was foaled in 06 (making her two... RUN!) or if she's 6 years old... which isnt quite as bad but still doesn't make her worth anything near 12,000 dollars. i know the market in AU is better than here in the US but i'm confident you could find a better horse for half that money

  5. i also luv paints (as i own one :D) she looks like a very good horse, very smart. my paint is also a western pleasure and barrel racing plus more, and they are both very fun to ride. make sure to test ride her first of course, and make sure the current owner says she has the ability/health to barrel race, but she looks great! i would buy her

  6. hey-

whoa! that is a very nice horse... but.. the price is kinda up there... this horse has got to be everything you've dreamed of.. not just the looks.. you should probably ask your uncle if he could take u up the so you can get a ride.. it also wouldn't hurt to kinda nogotiate and have her lower that price.. this horse has to have everything.. confirmation, performance, good around people, safe, willing.. just and all around great horse.see if you can connect.. otherwise, i applaud you, that looks like a pretty awesome horse

  7. she's pretty...but not $12,000 pretty....sorry.

  8. She isn't particularly well put together. Nice coloring but that is about it.

Doing tricks is great but I would be VERY suspicious that there is no info about her gaits, any competitions or anything she's done.

I checked out the video on YouTube and aside from being irritated at all the videos they took of stills, she is very strung out. She is not on the bit and is using her neck for balance, which is a very ugly thing (in my opinion). The horse didn't pick up the correct lead in the video and came around a corner and swapped leads in the front but not the back. This is called counter-cantering. She probably has very little muscle strength in her hind end and can't maintain the canter. Again, very heavy on the forehand.

I would say this horse is at best, green, worst, poorly trained at normal riding. That she can do as many tricks as she can shows that she is trainable and very smart, but I think looking at the video that she is going to need a LOT of professional training to get her out of what she's learned. Right now she's being ridden pseudo dressage - I say pseudo because I don't think the person riding her knows what she is doing otherwise she would have corrected the horse when she picked up the wrong lead and again when she started counter cantering - and to try to train her into Western where I'm sure she's supposed to be relaxed will be very difficult.

I would NOT breed this horse regardless of bloodlines. And unless you want to spend at least the next two years doing some very serious training I would keep looking. This horse is not worth $12,000.

  9. Prettydoesn't neccessarily mean she can turn good times on the barrels.

Run some barrels with this mare & get some times.  Ask to see some proof of her barrel abilities- ribbons?  $$$$??

  10. well i can't tell you to buy a horse or not because it really can only be your decision because your the one who needs to feel comfortable with her.

    but some pointers are:

she does tricks, which yes can be a good thing to show all your friends... but.. i have a horse who does all these same tricks and sometimes he will do them at times when it really is not appropriate..

so that can sometimes cause issues.. especially rearing!

im not really one for paints, but everyone has there opinion. but i don't like the look of the blue eye, and there more prone to getting problems and blindness.

she does have good bloodlines but for conformation i would have to say that is average.

but if its true that she is so quiet and a good barrel racer then that's a rare but great as most barrel racers aren't all that quiet!

so when you go look at her keep these things in mind, and if you suit each other well then why not, but if there is any little problems no offence but i wouldn't pay $12 000 for a horse with any issues at all!

    but good luck!

  11. Usually for barrel racing I would suggest Quarter Horses, but if they say she can barrel race and what not then buy her.

Make sure you ride her first before you buy her. Then you will really know if you want her.
