that will be safe and good for children, first day, getting off plain driving down the streets, in alecanta, prostitutes all over the place, 2nd day, looking at schools in different location, man came over to the van that my husband was being driven around in from people from atlas . and stool a hand bag out of the van with them sitting in it, is there any safe places in spain, or is this a waist of time, now i understand why there are bars on the windows of all the houses , maybe what about more in the fortuna, costa calid near murcia, maybe something rural, but not to rural, need to be able to get to shops and schools nearby as well as work, does anyone know of any good ares to live and be safe and work in ,

  1. Nerja is a great place, they have little quiet villages but its not too far away from a local town.

Its a great place to live and have a holiday.

My friends auntie owns a home their and its just amazing, sucha  lovely place to live.

  2. Blanes is really nice- costa brava. Have a few friends that have moved there and love it.

  3. murcia is a kind of poor area, theres nothing there, and alicante...well...the same! is like you go to kansas when you have the opportunity of going to new york or san francisco.

i recomend you madrid. the capital. for gettin a house is a kind of expensive. but is nice. try to look in las rozas, la moraleja, around madrid.or just the city centre (barrio de salamanca, alonso martinez, retiro). europe is not the united states, prostitution is allowed, so in  all major cities in europe you will see prostitutes, about stole things...you just have bad luck...it could happen to anybody else...madrid is the best choice for me...

  4. the jalon valley is a gorgeous place to live i live there

  5. You would be far better off in France! Unless you consider Baleares or Canaries.

  6. Is any where safe these days I would say your best bet would be in real Spain away from tourist traps but may be you don't want that so go to the Costa's and get mugged ie Benalmadene, which is full of Brits all wanting their steak and kidney pies and fish and chips in fact when we went there we thought we were in the U.K thank you but no thank you .good luck hope you find what you are looking for as the u.k. has nothing and we moved 3 years a go to a beautiful Paradise but I'm not saying where as we don't want it over run!   good hunting

  7. Good luck with your decision ~ seems to me like you are really doing an honest job in assessing all the pros and cons, and staying in touch with full reality.

I'm sure there are parts of Spain which are geared towards people like you, to fulfil your requirements.

However I just remember that recent Porta Banus about the corrupt official who'd passed loads of planning permission documents over the years all around the area (been receiving big kickbacks), and now people who've lived there for 10 years are still under threat of having their villas/apartment buildings knocked down by main government.  I agree this is nothing you can really worry about - but just try and cover all bases whatever you look at. GL and enjoy.

  8. There are lots of good areas in Spain, I think you have just been very unlucky. The bars are on the windows so that people can leave the window open at anytime because it is hot.

I have added some websites, they are forums for expats living in Spain. They will be able to help you with all your questions about moving over there. Honest and reliable advice.

It's better to do lots of research before you move, especially as you have children. But the best advice you will get is from people that have been in the same situation as you and are living there now.

Everyone has different priorities and there are many factors involved in finding the right place for you.

My personal advice would be -

If possible try renting out there before you buy. What if you buy a house and don't like the area? It's much easier to find what you want if you are there looking but you also need time. Buying over there is not so simple and you will pay much more fees than we do in the UK. So you really need to take your time.

Spain is a beautifull country and I am sure that when you find your home you will like it and be happy there.

  9. depends on what you want.

do you want to be part of spain ? or be part of Britain in Spain?

i used to really like to go to Valencia but since Ryanair and Easyjet started going there, it is full of chavs.

  10. FORGET SPAIN.  LOOK AT CYPRUS, A MUCH BETTER OPTION,  SCHOOLS GOOD, HEALTH CAR GOOD, BIG CHOICE OF PROPERTY.  GOOD ALL YEAR ROUND WEATHER, EXAMPLE. TODAY 24degrees, clear blue sky.

look on  www.cyprushols.com, fill in their property requirements form, and see what they send you.

  11. Alicante is a good place to buy a home in. It has good access including the international airport.

Real estate prices in many areas there have been falling so it could be a good time to buy there.

Leave the resort part for the tourists and check out some of the nearby smaller towns for a slower pace of life and village community setting - ideal for children.

    Good luck!

  12. Well there´s good and bad where ever you go, I live in SPAIN,(GALICIA) which is in the north west of Spain.I moved here 4 years ago,the part I live near is called La Coruña, I find this part of Spain very nice, plenty for kid´s to do , the school´s are good , although unless you put your kid´s to private school ,they will be treated the same ,have no complaint´s about the school´s ,great beaches here, plenty fresh air  the food well great , yes a very nice place to live. Just depend´s on what work your husband dose, come to Galica, sure you would love it here

  13. costa del sol is lovely.  I've been brought up there for 24 years (am now 25) i have never had any of the problems you had, i think you've been unlucky.  try www.nabss.org it gives you a list of british schools in spain and the areas they're in. I think you just went to the wrong area is all.

  14. just make sure its near a bull ring so you can watch them slaughter the bulls every nite.   thats what they do for fun  there as well as our neighbor messico, lol......You know,

    The messicans.

  15. mmmmm why don't you try looking for a home in other areas that don't have tourist all year round, I'm an American living in Spain and i highly recommend galicia or Asturias. beautiful beaches schools and towns. very safe... one of the safest cities in Europe is in galicia (northern Spain), Santiago De Compostela.. mmmmmm by the way someone made a comment about the bullfights and i just wanted to say that saying that bullfights and flamenco is Spanish culture is as stupid as saying at in the USA everyone wears cowboy hats and likes country music., of course there are parts of Spain that have bullfights just like in parts of  France... i just wanted to mention it because as an American in Asturias i feel embarrassed when a fellow American makes comments like that.....good luck finding your home

  16. Try visiting Canary Islands for a couple of weeks. Sure, it's touristry, but I think it still meets your criteria.

Or Marbella (south coast) it's quite affluent.
