When you look into someone's eyes is it true that you can see the pain/suffering/anguish they've been through? I just don't see it.

Opinions, experiences?

  1. yeah i do.

if someone tells me theyre fine && i look into there eyes i can see if theyre telling the truth or lying to me.

  2. I am not endowed with such a power. So I don't believe in it. May be, there are some who can find out.

  3. You are taking this too literally, what this means is, if you look at a persons eyes/face you can see the pain and suffering they have been through maybe from creases around the eyes or prominant stress symptoms or a distressed face, age worn face etc.

  4. It's not the eyes, it's the lines and features around the eyes.  Seriously, it really isn't that accurate or true....unless of course they are crying.

  5. I do agree that you can see a lot in someones eyes yes, however, you cant always see the pain/anguish too much, especially if someone tries to pretend all is ok. As the eyes are supposed to be the windows to the soul, i do see certain things when i look in someones eyes, i see happiness, lying, passion, etc. as well as sometimes sadness, but it is quite difficult to tell with some people...

  6. If you're talking about "seeing" how people really feel in spite of contrasting actions then here's my answer:

It's not really seeing, it's more of feeling. It's called empathy and it is innate in every person, and according to studies even in animals. Details such as facial expressions, body movements and things like that serve as stimuli that trigger a reaction in our brains which makes us recreate the same emotion we see in another person in our selves.

People are sometimes much more sensitive than others that they can see slight details they could not even enumerate, probably because those things they see register as something subconscious. This means that the ability to feel empathy varies among all of us. Some people in fact almost aren't capable of feeling empathy at all.

Try looking up empathy to understand it better. Hope my answer helps!

  7. I think there's some truth in that. I guess they have their trauma at the back of their mind a lot of the time so they would show it in some way. I know someone who saw their father die at a young age, and she often has a sad look.

  8. it depends on the person's expression.

or maybe even on personality, extroverted vs introverted?

but maily eyes are just eyes... and it depends mainly on us what we see in them, what certain eyes suggest to us. mostly we can imagine lots of things while looking at someone's eyes.

  9. I know if you stare too long they give you the finger!
