It has to have great gas mileage and be easy to maintain. Must be easy to insure for a young person. Any recommendations?

  1. The Corolla's your best bet. It's just about the most reliable model ever produced, the gas mileage is decent, and they're about as bland as you can get, which is good for insurance purposes.

  2. Pretty much anything Honda or Toyota is going to be a safe bet... Parts are also cheap....

Mid 90's corollas are super reliable, cheap, and get great MPG, but I'll admit fairly boring to drive....

  3. Honda Civic.  My daughter is driving a 7 year old one.....it has caused us no problems at all in that 7 years, is great on gas and inexpensive to insure.

  4. Ford Focus, Chevy Cobalt

  5. The Hyundai Accent.

Hyundai's entry-level model is available as a sedan or hatchback and is powered by a reasonably refined 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine that returned 26 mpg overall. The ride is relatively comfortable and quiet.
