I'm looking to spend between $150-$250. Are HJCs any good? Are Shoie that much better or are they just more evpensive?

  1. HJCs are OK. They are really popular because they have so many designs. You gotta watch out for them though, some of their helmets aren't SNELL approved, which is what you NEED. DOT alone means nothing. The SNELL foundation actually tests their helmets.

I found the brand "Scorpion EXO" to be the best value and fit for the money. They have the EXO400, EXO700, and EXO1000. I got the EXO 1000 because of all its amazing features. www.sportbiketrackgear.com did a review of many helemets including the scorpion exo 1000 on thier site. Personally doing a 90mph headcheck on the highway is easy. The helmet doesn't shake at 150mph either.

  2. Any full face helmet you drop on the ground by accident becomes worthless. So buy cheap, and buy often.

  3. I've had 2 HJC's and 1 Shoei. The HJC's fit better than the Shoei did. The important thing is finding a helmet that's comfortable for you... Ya won't want to wear it otherwise, regardless of brand!

If you're in a hot climate, also make sure the helmet you pick has plenty of ventilation points.

  4. The first thing you need to do is go to a couple of dealerships and try on different helmets.  They all fit a bit different, much like shoes and clothes.  So try on everything you can find till you see what fits and don't. As long as it's Snell and DOT rated it'll be a good helmet.  I own 11 helmets and 4 of them a HJC's, good helmets especially for the price.  Shoei's are sweet also but I don't think they are worth what they ask for them.  Most of my helmets are bought at www.denniskirk.com but shop around for the best deals.

  5. For the tenth consecutive year, Arai Helmets have earned the number-one ranking in J.D. Power and Associates’ Motorcycle Helmet Customer Satisfaction Study.

They have different style helmets for different shaped heads as well as size. I have used most major brands, the Arai is by far the most comfortable all day helmet I have used. I will not buy anything else. They cost a little more but I think they are worth the price.

  6. Shoeis are my personal fave but they are expensive and last soooo long

  7. It should have a DOT and SNELL approval sticker on the back. Any name helmet will be good if it has those on it.

I have an HJC and a Z1R. The HJC has better air flow through the vents.

Edit: DO NOT buy a helmet online. The fit of a helmet matters big time. If the helmet is too big, it can rip right off your head in crisis. A big helmet also catches a lot of air when riding and makes you look like a bobble head. You have to try the helmet on to make sure it's nice and snug.

  8. I have had 3 HJC and think they are a very good mid range helmet. They last 3 or 4 years only. Safety considered any helmet should be discarded at 5 years.

  9. STUDDS

    I using a studds

tats giving me superb cooling and extra confidence...

  10. HJC as well as KBC are both good quailty helmets ,I have a KBC full face that is both DOT and Snell approved , I paid $150.00 for it

  11. 150 to 250? is that all your head is worth?. I use a full face sHOei.Light weight, snell approved.

  12. HJC makes some good inexpensive helmets. You can get one that is DOT and SNELL rated from newenough.com for $69.

  13. Helmut? Like Helmut Newton, the danish photographer?

    Look here:

  14. I used to rock a HJC, it was sufficient....

i now have a shoei, and it's a bit lighter...

get what you can afford, make sure it's both snell and dot approved

  15. HJC is pretty decent.  Also take a look at Shark, Suomy, Arai, and Shoei.  These all have crumple zones that are designed differently than most helmets.  They're also pretty light and very comfortable.

  16. You can get name brands for less at Sandhillsports.com

But really any full face with a rating is going to do the job.  Personally I like Icon cause they are very quiet and have cool graphics.
