Question:

Looking to buy stingray fish

I am looking to delve into the stingray fish realm and was wondering what I should purchase to have a happy aquarium. I will be purchasing a 100 gallon tank(for now then upgrade later) and I would like to know what I should purchase to go with it i.e what are the best filters to get? Submerged or hanging on the back? Any other info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Oh I forgot to mention that I have 2 silver Arowana as well. So I am used to the big commitment of water changes and regular tank cleanings. I have heard rays go GREAT aro's and want to add them to the family.

  1. well you better learn alot before you just go drop a stingray in your tank....    they are not for beginners.

  2. go to mexico and pull some out of the ocean

    hah. just kidding

    just dont get caught..

  3. Since the rays will need a very fine substrate, under gravel filters are out the question-- sand will fall right through the grate, clogging it instantly.  Two canister filters would be a very good idea, preferably two rated for a tank the size you'll be uprading to.  Having two will allow you to change one at a time and not do significant damage to your biofilter.  You may want to look for canisters that have a built in heater, as the ray's delicate skin can easily be damaged on an exposed heater.

EDIT: These would be good sites to start with, but you may want to check out some stingray and general aquarium books out from the library as well...
