Looking to convert hot water baseboard to radiant heat. Possible?

Hi All,

I'm going to be expanding my kitchen into my dining room but there is a hot water baseboard on the wall that must go as cabinets will be there.

Is it possible to remove the baseboard and attach Pex piping to the copper in and out of where the baseboard was? Basically I'm looking to attach pex instead of the baseboard and have the pex layed under my tiles that will be put in?

Is this possible?

Thanks!

  1. Probably not your best idea. The water in the heating system runs 160 to 180 degrees. This under the tile would make walking over them unbearable. Here is the solution I use in these type situations. You can go in floor or under cabinet with a different type cabinet.

  2. a lot of wor call to professionals

  3. You would have to install the underfloor pex tubing as a separate zone that incorporates a 3 way thermostatic mixing valve that would lower the supply water temperature going to just that zone. Not a particularly hard project ,but has a lot of pitfalls for the uninitiated.Better left to a pro.
