Question:

Looking to do a China/Japan / southeast asia trip. Is it worth breaking that up & what's the (approx.) cost?

i suspect I could easily spend at least a month between China & Japan, so perhaps it may be wise to split this trip up. I'd love to do these also:

Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, Bali.

Could I do that (without being TOO rushed) in about 2 months?

  1. China itself is too huge an area for you to conquer within two months unless you give up northern & western China. You could basically divide Japan into three destinations south, central and north.

South-East Asia is not a big problem but it'll be good to separate it from your East Asia Trip.  SE Asia Countries can be easily conquered within 1-2 weeks within a tour pakage.

2 mths is definitely too rush for a hugh area like China (including Japan). And you'll be spending most of your money on air tickets & airport taxes.

My advise is go to afew area at a time for a shorter period for maximum enjoyment & relaxation.  If time doesn't allowed that (meaning for example if you're in-between jobs). Then you may wanna start from HeiLongJiang, JiLin, LiaoNing, TianJing City, BeiJing (Capital), HeBei, ShanDong, JiangSu, ShangHai City, ZheJiang, JiangXi, HuBei, HuNan, GuiZhou, GuangDong (Pearl River Delta [GuangZhou, Macau (AoMen), HongKong (XiangGang)]), FuJian. Followed by JinMen & Taiwan.

Forget about Japan in this trip. This trip alone will cost less if you travel by land within PRC. It's a pity you may have to skip HeNan, ShanXi, Sh-anXi, Inner Mongol and the rest of western China cos geographically it's very difficult to complete China within a single trip unless you only wanna "Touch-and-Go" type of trip and preparing to spent on airflights and accomodation more than going around the places.

  2. Yes, I think so. China is a very nice country.

We provide the people to people trip in China...

We could also do the tour as you wanted....make the personal tour for you...

  3. Try Cathay Pacifics All Asia Pass. Total plane cost is around $2,500 ( HK/4 destinations $1,799 + extra destination $300 + extended visit $400), only caveat is that you have to use Hong Kong as the hub between all the cities.

See links below for program offer.

  4. I did all except Bali plus Hong Kong, Malaysia, Lao, Vietnam and I did it in just under six weeks. It just depends on what you want to experience. You might find there are areas you don't like and so you move on quickly and you stay longer in places that you like. For eg I didn't like Vientiane so I left the following day but I loved Luang Prabang (both in Lao) so I stayed a little longer than planned. You have to plan how long you will stay bearing in mind distances between towns and cities. Time you lose in one you can spend in another. I didn't stay long in Japan it was too expensive for my budget, the rest of Asia was relatively cheap.

I couldn't tell you how much I spent. All I know I spent carefully and chose budget hotels and hostels. My most expensive hotel was in  Japan I think about $60 per night. I spent $5 in China and in Bangkok, in Chiang Mai it was $30 and that was expensive as cheaper guest houses were available. I was tired and a friend had recommended it but in the end it worked out as it was near to everything and everyone knew its location. Also it was one of the few places that take credit cards! If you are going budget you need to travel with cash or make sure you can withdraw cash at anytime.

I would guess around $1500 total? That includes token souvenirs.

  5. Yes, you can because the 6 countries are very close to each other. I can not suggest you where to stay longer because I do not know where you like more.

Generally speaking, China is bigger and you may stay longer.

By the day, are you a German? I met 2 German before and they both travelled in this way.

The cost is 10, 000 euro, if you want a economical trip. (flights not include)
