Hello, I am a 25-year old single female living in New Jersey and am currently going to school for my Master’s Degree in which I hope to be graduating in either Fall 2009 or Spring 2010. I am interested in either purchasing a house or purchasing a lot of land in the Atlanta, Georgia area. I heard that GA is great for young people who are looking for opportunity and that outside the city limits is a good place to live. The main reason for purchasing a home in Atlanta is that I would like to pursue my PhD at Georgia State University or another school close by.

I’d like to have my plans finalized so that I can start the process for building a house and saving, etc. Could anyone point me into the right direction? Any contractors in mind? Realtors if needed? And, finally are there any specific areas I should be looking into?

Thanks for your help.

  1. We're going through a similar situation. Based on our research we found it would be more costly to live in the suburbs and commute. We've opted to live in town close to work and school.  We're also hearing news of the home prices in suburbia dropping as more people are moving back into the city centers. Best of luck!

  2. I am 25 years old and I am a new homeowner as well. I went through a little program called NACA. It was the best experience in a lifetime. Not only can they find you a home with a very low interest rate. They also pay your closing cost. Check out the website. NACA.com..Good Luck and Congrats! Also you will be attending school in one of Atlanta's traffic zone. Depending on what you can afford will determine your area. Of course if you are closer to downtown Atlanta you will pay a good penny for it. However, you will be closer to school and will save alot in gas. So think about it.
