The other option is to get plain wood interior and stain to match. We'd also get simulated divided light grills, which would need to be stained. We'll be in this house for about 5 yrs, so I'm looking for what people would want - Ease of maintenance or better fit with house?

  1. i would go with the wood windows, stained and polyed.Seems it would match better.

  2. I would consider looking at a wood-clad window. Something with a fiberglass or aluminum exterior. You'll be able to choose from an array of exterior colors, or just order them primed and paint them yourself. The exterior fiberglass/aluminum will make the windows last a lot longer than a "true" wood window and be a good selling point for the future buyer of your house.

Milgard makes a good WoodClad window with a fiberglass exterior. You can actually get an idea on pricing on this website: http://www.thewindowstore.com - click "Get Pricing". You can request the interior to be delivered as raw wood or primed white. Superior Windows makes a really good aluminum-clad wood window (http://superior-windows.com/viewProd.php... as well.

Milgard has as lifetime warranty on parts and labor which will also be much appreciated by the future owner(s) of the home.

If you're only going to spend the next 5 years in the house I wouldn't blow out your budget for the windows. While they'll certainly be a strong selling point for the next owner of the house you shouldn't spend too much since you'll only benefit from them for the next few years.

Last, but not least, the wood-clad windows cost less than "true" wood windows, are lower maintenance and can achieve the same look for a fraction of the price.

    Good luck with your project.

  3. I would go with better fit with house, shouldn't be a problem with maintainance, good luck
