Question:

Looking to start a Child Day care in New Orleans Area?

Does anyone know where I can find grants or loans that would approve me to start a day care in my area (New Orleans), please don't say grants.gov because I went there and I need some free info.

Also licensing info, rules, guidelines, what type of degree or schooling do I actually need, I did a semester of Early Childhood Education but I don't know if that is enough.

Also I would like to know where can I find the correct curriculum for infants and toddlers. Can anyone help me out there, I would really appreciate the info because I'm tired of working for other people and would like to make decent money.

  1. I don't have very specific information for you but I know of a woman who is doing the same type of thing. Her name is Joyce Brown and she is a Montessori teacher. She used to live and work at a Montessori school in Texas and now has decided to open up a Montessori school in New Orleans, trying to make it very, very cheap for parents to afford this wonderful education. She spoke of doing this in January while we were on a trip to Rome. Unfortunately, she has such a common name it may be hard to find her, but I would say maybe try to get in touch with her for ideas?

  2. I don't know about grants in New Orleans, but in Illinois the Community Coordinated Child Care has some for providers in their area.  See if there is a group like that in your area.  Also, for licensing and such call your Department of Child & Family Services.  They can send you all the information that you need and start you in the process of getting licensed.  Good Luck!
