Looking to switch to a visor?

alright, so i'm starting to get back into hockey again. previously, i've worn a cage, but i'm starting to get tired of having to undo it to take a drink. and i am starting to feel like my vision is getting narrowed by the cage.

here is my question:

what is the difference between a cage and a visor?

ppl who have made the change, why did you do it? did you like it? do you still wear a visor? if not, why did you change back?

now, for people who have used both:

which one do you like better, why?

thanks

  1. Visors are OK I had one and it fogged up a lot and being older I don't like the fact of my face not being protected really not intrested in taking a puck to the face, maybe your cage did not fit properly I never had to take it of to get a drink and never got in the way of my vision..

  2. With the cage, you get complete protection to your face. In my opinion, the air flow is better and it doesn't fog up.

With the visor, you have better vision.

It's all preference. I prefer the cage because I've already been hit in the face with the puck.

  3. The cage greatly reduces your vision. The visor being transparent lets you see a lot better, however it does fog up sometimes.

  4. I'm actually not wearing any facial protection right now, but out of the two I prefer a visor greatly over a cage.

The only gripe against the visor is you HAVE to take care of it. Keep your helmet in a pillow case so it doesn't get scratched up, make sure you clean it and keep a towel to defog it. I never liked the cage and I switched as soon as I could. But it's all personal preference. If you are playing in a fairly skilled league, I wouldn't worry about wearing a visor, but if your skating around with a bunch of new players and "pitchforkers" you may want to keep the cage on.

  5. Visor doesn't offer as much protection as a cage.  I made the switch, but went back because the fogging on the bench pissed me off, and a took a puck in the mouth.  I'd of been fine had i been wearing a visor, but instead i had to shell out three grand to my dentist.

But let's do make on thing clear, visors DO NOT fog up when you're playing, only when your on the bench.  Once you start moving there to no fog what so ever.
