Question:

Looking to upgrade from CBR F2-- What to get?

I have a CBR F2 and I'd like to upgrade. I'm very comfortable with the CBR's and was thinking about the F4i, but I need a good easy-to-fix-yourself kind of stable bike in the lower price bracket. I was think about a buell because they are easy to repair, but I'm addicted to the look and feel of the CBRs... Any suggestions?

Thanks one and all.

  1. If you like the f4i, get it.  They are great bikes, I got one new in 02 and put over 36,000 miles on it.  The only thing to have gone wrong other than regular maintenance (7 sets of tires+ a few rears here and there) was the cam chain tensioner.  Most say its only a noise and you do not have to fix it, but it's a nice bike and why have it sounding bad, you may have had the same problem with you f2.  It has been a great bike, I kept it when I got a new 1000rr last summer.  I still ride it for commuting because it is far more comfortable than the new bike.  I stayed with Honda because of how great of a bike it has been, no problems and I have by no stretch of the imagination babied the bike.  It has been dragged raced, one track day, and ridden quite hard when I first got it and was in still young enough to be stupid.  I have done all of my maintenance on the bike other than the first 600 mile check-up and the first two sets of tires.  It is a fairly easy bike to maintain but you should get a manual, stands and basic metric hand tools.  google cbr forum.

  2. I think injected bikes are esier to maintain is really there isn't much todo, carbs need alot more attention. The only wrong side is if FI breaks you probably won't be able to fix it your self.

What a bike all depends on what you want from an upgrade SV650 are ok but it will be a fair bit slower than your CBR, the buells are nice but servicing is very expensive and they are tiny. If you are looking for realiability I would go for a newer honda. The F4's are meant to be very good.

  3. ZZR600, it's similar to the CBR600F4i but it's carbuerated, so fixing it is going to be simpler. It's another bike just like the F4i that the manufeactuer (Kawasaki) is leaving around, though they are making faster models.

    Also look at the SV650, GSX650F, Ninja 650R, 2008 Ninja 250R, Yamaha FZ6, CBR600F4i, Hyosung GT650R, United Motors V2S650R.

  4. Whats the difference between repairing a F2 and a F4i? h**l they hardly need any maintenance at all. Pour in gas change the oil and filter every once in awhile. Buy the F4i.

  5. i would go with the yamaha r6
