In case you hadn't noticed, six weeks from now is about halfway through October. The season won't have even started yet. Kobe's going to start the first regular season game. Clippers will have to battle it out for number two with the Suns. The Warriors aren't going to be very good.

I disagree with the bomb,  Even though the Clippers lost Brand they made some serious roster change this past summer and they will be in the thick of things.  When you look at the teams that made the playoff this past years in the west and you have to look at The clippers being in it or at least contending and you have to look at Portland and they might be a scary teams because they were 500 team and this was without Greg Oden and you got this kid from Spain Rudy Fernadez  this year and if you saw the Gold medal game this kid has real talent and plus Brandon roy is a star in the making so I wonder who will be out of the playoff this year from the west?  I think is The Nuggets.

Bomb,  What position do you think the Lakers would have been if they did not get Gasol?  They got a gift getting Gasol and that was the only reason they were able to stay atop of the Pacific,  I made the comment from the original question and that how well would the clippers do if kobe was out and I think there record would be better until kobe came back.  The Clippers on papers mde some good trades and took a step back when they lost Brand but I think they recovered a little with Camby and  I think they will make the playoff before Denver. Your comment about the lakers and clippers is basically saying if Kobe lets say was out the whole year they will still make the playoff and have a better record than the Clippers and I am saying with the aquisition that the Clippers made this past summer the clippers would have a better record than the Lakers.

About Portland they were 500 and when you look at it they beat the Lakers twice this past year 2-4 so they were 500 with the best team in the west where as the Nuggets who made the playoff did not beat the Lakers at all this past year, Playoff or regular season I mean they were 0-8 against the lakers . Portland  also  this past year in a tough western conference and had a 15 games winning  streak one of the best streaks in the NBA this past year So with all this you are basically saying that Portland is not a good team and just these simple facts says otherwise. I am just saying with the most coveted rookie that we seen in quite awhile in Greg Oden and I mean every team was trying to get him  is playing with them you would think they would at least be  just as good or better than they were this past year  and Rudy Fernandez,  I don't know what racist comment he made I just watch him in the Gold medal game and I been watching the NBA for over 30 years and this boy has talent and if Mcmillan who has done a marvelous job already with the talent he has can put it all together then This very young team will be a force to be reckon with.

No way Jose, the Lakers without Kobe is still better than the Clippers, and plus Kobes only gonna miss the 1st week of the NBA season at most.

Edit: Eddie, most people seem to forget that the Lakers were Western Conference Champs last year, and did it mostly without Bynum. Even if Kobe misses about a week or two of the NBA season, the Lakers are still a very talented Team. And I think its foolish to say that the Blazers are gonna be a Contender. Sure they look awesome on paper, but C'mon man are you really sold on a Unproven rookie in Greg Oden and that racist spaniard Rudy Fernandez. C'mon dog get real.

I'm a Clips fan and I'd say that it's possible but not probable. Kobe won't miss much time and Phoenix is talented but questionable without D'Antoni. The Clips should be better than GS or Sac though...and for those who think the Lakers are better than the Clips without Kobe, NO. And for those who think the Lakers are better off without Kobe- again, NO.

???? you do know that kobe will be back before the start of the season right?. They made it clear that the worst case scenario kobe misses all of the preseason. Like he even needs it, suns! you must be a suns fan to say that. They lost their coach, they're players are getting old, and they have no real direction.
