  1. The loop hates you?  :P

If you are doing a loop from a 3 turn entrance (front inside edge to back outside edge), you ARE doing a loop from a backwards entrance.  (Unless your coach is telling you are prerotating on the ice in which it is possible then to be doing a cheated loop with a forward "hop").

That 3 turn entrance is how I got my loop - I didn't understand the back crossover entrance at first.  The thing with a 3 turn entrance, the force is already rotating you, so your body naturally rotates for the jump. It takes a teeny more effort with the backcrossovers at first . . . but once you can do it, it won't seem as different.

Translating from 3 turn to back crossover entrance:

When you do the 3 turn one, once you are on the back outside edge, you bend that knee, put all your weight on that one leg and hold, then jump, right?

When you do the back crossover entrance, it's actually the very SAME thing except that you might do the hold a teeny bit longer.  Your legs should be in the same position as you do with the 3 turn entrance - with that freeleg in front.  You're not really jumping off of both feet . . . with all your weight on the take off leg, it's your take off leg you need to concentrate on for the jump.  That front leg is like a balancing rudder . . . just think of lifting that freeknee UP in your jump.  Pull in your arms just like you do in the 3 turn entrance!!

So - when you practice the back crossover entrace, keep the feeling of the 3 turn one . . . essentially they are the same thing except:

That back outide edge needs to be held a little longer with back crossovers than the 3 turn one.

Speed will help greatly with the backcrossover one (it's easier) . . . you don't need much speed to do the 3 turn one.

Hope that made sense  :P  Good luck with the loops, Stace!!

  2. ok, i think that your entrance is probably a bit weak. remember to get plenty of speed, then glide on both feet with the left foot directly in front of the right foot. pull your right shoulder blade ALL the way back, but stay on a straight egde. then, bend your knees into a mildly low position, but stay over your foot. afterwards, pop on your toepick really hard, but lift both feet at the SAME TIME! while you are jumping, make sure to really press the toe into the ice and let it pop out. in the air, allow the left knee to go higher than the right knee, and don't try to get into a tight leg position. to help you rotate, bring your arms tight and around.

    good luck!

  3. wait...........

    when doing backward crossovers,

    1.you take a step out

    2. do a 3 turn

    3. do your jump

you arent supposed to do a backwards entrance except on a flip. or try doing it really slowly on ice then off ice.

  4. try doing it very slowly off ice

  5. ignore that Joe Jonas girl...

the only forward jump is an axle

When you're going into it backwards...really exaggerate crossing your free leg over your other leg... it sets your feet uo in rotating positioning right away... and make sure your body is in check

Ask your coach about checking if you don't know what I mean!!

    Hope it helps =)
