Loopholes in the game style of Top-3 players in the world – Tennis Special
Perfection is an illusion. No one can ever identify himself as a perfect professional because nothing like that exists, everything can be improved with more practice and willpower.
Hence, the idea of a flawless player in the world of tennis is also a fantasy. In this article, we will pinpoint some of the problems with the Top-3 men in the world of tennis. These are probably the weaknesses that can be exploited to register some upsets
against big guns.
Starting with the highest ranked player in the world:
Novak Djokovic
The 25-year-old Serb has instilled himself as an icon in the field of tennis over the past two years. He has driven out the competition of the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, and the 11-time Grand Slam Champion, Rafael Nadal, on several occurrences and ended
twice as year-end number one player in the world of tennis.
Djokovic had a fantastic season and retained the Australian Open title at Melbourne after a gruelling six-hour marathon against Nadal. It is very difficult to point out a mistake in his game but in-depth analysis of his game style highlights a flaw in his
stationary forehand. The Serb superstar is a defence-to-offense player but with an aggravated shoulder, he can’t generate the same amount of pace that is required to upset the opponent.
Moreover, the rival of Djokovic can capitalize on the net points more with drop shots because the Serb is usually sitting back at the baseline preparing for a big booming drive. So, that tactic can always trouble the 26-year-old Serb but it is highly unlikely
that he will fall for the same trap on multiple occurrences during an encounter so the mix-up is important.
Roger Federer
The 11-time Grand Slam Champion defines everything from his achievements. It was extremely hard to extract a weakness in the game style of Federer.
However, the 31-year-old Swiss has been seen under a lot of trouble from the running backhand returns. It has been seen in the recent season that the Swiss tends to focus more on the forehand returns and engage the other players to play according to his
style but whenever the opponents have send Federer on his backhand, he faulted.
It is the age factor that has stretched him to such an extent that he barely hits a return which leaves on the defence, contrary to the good old days when he could just smash the ball with an offensive backhand and stayed on top of the point.
Rafael Nadal
Unfortunately, the 11-time Grand Slam Champion could not register a successful year in 2012. He was surrounded by numerous problems especially the knee injury that kept him out of action for almost six months. However, the commanding style of Nadal also
depleted compared to last year and it was because he changed the serve strategy in 2012. He was flattening the serve in the last year and managed gigantic success through the employment of that strategy but we never saw that kind of flat serves in 2012. It
is probably because the 26-year-old Spaniard has lost confidence and don’t want to start the point as aggressively as he used to in 2011.
Flat serve saved Nadal a lot of energy by acquiring him points through aces and few shot rallies. However, it seems like he did not pick the positives and returned back to the old fashioned banana serves that has increased the pressure on his knee.
