Question:

Loose bicycle chain wheel?

I'm not a cyclist, and may have my terms wrong, but the chain wheel (I think that's what the front gears are called) is loose. When I have pressure on the left pedal, it tilts one way, and tilts the other way when I have pressure on the right pedal.

I can't seem to find any way to tighten it - any help would be appreciated.

  1. Given what you said, I think it is your bottom bracket that is loose.  Your bottom bracket holds the axle that both of your crank arms are attached to.  I would take your bike to a bike shop and have them look at it.

Another possibility is that your chain ring is bent.

What you call chain wheels are usually called chain rings, but you described them correctly.  No problem.

  2. if u have three piece cranks then it is either the bottom braket that is loose but it probbly would be the cranks themselves especially if the bike was purchased within the last week to 3months...go to a bike shop and ask them what the problem is just to be sure
