  1. to expand on what the previous guy said. the best thing to do is to get a chain breaker, VERY useful to have, they hsouldnt be that expensive and when you have one it will last over a life time. you can get these from ANY bike shop and are really easy to use. all you do is place the chain in the clamp on the breaker and skrew out the pin, but be carefull, try not to push the pin all the way out on the last link, this is just giving you more work to do. and when you get the desired amount of links out, over lap the chain and push the pin back into place, done right and the chian will runn smoothly,

the other way which is eisier but may not always work is to undo the bolt on the back tire and slide the wheel back untill the chain is tight again, the simply tighten the bolt back up agian and you ready to ride.

  2. It is not just about the chain, you said you fell off your Mountain bike.  Was it all right before you fell off?  If is was you may have damaged the rear gear.  Check that the chain tensioner on the rear gear (that's the bit with the jockey wheels) moves when you turn it by hand, if it does not rotate freely and return to its original position you may need a new gear.

  3. their are two ways.

    1. you can take one link out of the chain.

    2. you can loosen the bolts on the back tire and pull tire towards the rear once tight hold their and tighten tire bolts
