Loose carpeted step in the house

Question

i have stairs in my house and there is a loose step. how do i fix it without tearing out the carpet? do i just hammer a nail through it? how do i know where to hammer and what type of nail. will it show b/c i dont want it to show. thanks.

I'd ask the guy at the carpet store.  He may even have someone looking for a side job.  It shouldn't be too much to do.  Good luck!
