both of my blades are loose, not too loose but loose enough that it moves back and forth on the front part of the blade where it is attached to the skate. How much would it probably cost to tighten the screws of my ice skate? do i need more screws?( i only have 4 screws on each skate, 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom.) How often does this happen? i skate 3 hours a week. please answer!

Thanks:)

  1. if you're careful you can tighten the screws yourself. I did this and it works fine. they get loose again after awhile-- you might want to check them once or twice a month. but make sure not to overtighten them.

if you're worried that you might need more screws, ask the people at your local skate shop. though usually two screws in front and two in back is normal. the other holes are supposed to be empty at first so if your boot needs to be remounted, they can use the empty holes. hope this helps and good luck with your skating!

  2. I had this same problem, when you first get your skates only four screws are put in on each skate, but after you've fully broken into your skates and you have had them for about 3 months, you can take them into the ice skating shop and they will put the rest of your screws in and tighten your old ones.

    Good luck :]

  3. you dont need to put too many screws in or you will chip the wood at the bottom of the boot, they might be on sliders take them to your local skate shop in your rink or ask a member of staff in the rink to help tighten them they shouldnt cost you anything just to tighten them.

  4. id say buy a new pair of skates, you shouldnt trust a skate with a blade thats loose even if you were to tighten the screws, it is dangerous, Riedell, Lake Placid and CCM are all good quality brands,my advice is ditch the old pair!

  5. Normally, Ice Blades usually have 4 screws in the front and 6 screws in the back for added strength and support. I would also like to add, other than getting a check up on the ice blade, to check the souls of your boots by either a boot maker or an ice skate repairer.

Usually this kind of job to replace and add screws should not cost more than $50 per boot. I couldn't recommend how much your souls would cost to be checked and/or replaced. The reason for this is that the holes might be elongated in your old souls, and different boot makers charge a separate price for replacing the soul. Hope this helps you.......

  6. I had a Loose blade on one of my skates, it was caused from the wood dry rotting. If you don't dry off your skates really well after each time you are done using them it can cause dry rotting in the wood. This could be a possibility. With my skate it was in the heel, and they added some wood to the boots( they had to do it to both b/c if they only did it to one i would have been off balance) I would say take it to your Pro Shop in the rink and ask them to take a look at you skates.
