Question:

Loose retainer fears...

Hey, my retainer feels a little bit looser than usual and I fear that it could cause my teeth to shift... its only been loose for a day so far... I've have the retainer for longer than 6 months now...

i was talking to someone today and suddenly it just dropped from my teeth... i tried adjusting it to tighten it and it sort of worked but it still feels a little loose. Is this normal after having a retainer for this amount of time ?

ps - going to orthodontist again isnt much of an option as $$$$

  1. First of all,  usually ALL retainer appts are included in your original treatment fee,  so call your orthodontist.   I bet he would adjust it at no charge.

Secondly,  DON"T try to adjust it yourself.   When you tighten or move anything,   you are changing the pressure it has on your teeth,  and may be pushing some teeth in a manner that would cause them to go more crooked.

Have your dentist adjust and tighten them......it should be free.

  2. Call your orthodontist. Explain the situation about the money. It may not even cost you anything But it is important that this be addressed. No it is not normal.  The retainer could be damaged and could cause more problems wearing and actually damage your teeth. You will not know unless you call what this will cost.
